Uluru, widely known as Ayers Rock is one of the major tourist attractions in Australia. Every year it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors despite the fact that it is located in an area that is well off the beaten track. It is one of those destinations that you have to make a special trip to see and it is well worth the effort.

Most people who go to Uluru go for the purpose of seeing the famous rock formation. More than six miles round and with a height of more than a thousand feet it is certainly impressive. This is especially true because it is located in the middle of a barren landscape, the rock really stands out since it is the only tall feature for hundreds of miles around.

The rock formation may be what draws people to Uluru but it is far form the only thing to see. There is actually quite an extensive park around the site. The area has been home to the aborigines for thousands of years and it provides visitors a great chance to learn about their history. Particularly interesting are the cave paintings.

There are some people who believe that it is inappropriate to visit Uluru because of the fact that it is a sacred location to the aborigines. The problem is that they have basically been forced to move away from the area because of all the tourists. In fact the lack of aborigines in the town around the park is something that a lot of visitors comment on. This is not to say that you shouldn’t go, just that you should think about whether or not it is really a good idea.

If you are going to visit Uluru you are going to have to plan ahead, getting there can be a challenge. There is a resort just outside of the park and it offers the only rooms for more than a hundred miles. The closest city is Alice Springs which is hardly the biggest city in the world or the easiest to get to itself. There is bus service to the park from Alice Springs but realistically you should probably plan on driving to get there.

The best times to visit Uluru are the spring or the fall when it is not too hot or too cold. The summer is unbearably hot while the winter can be quite chilly. Regardless of when you go you are going to have to make sure that you have plenty of supplies as the weather can change very suddenly and you may get stuck out there as the rain can make the roads impassable.

A city break in Zagreb is not complete without experiencing the well know nightlife. Zagreb is know to be the party capital of Croatia, and the nightlife scene is hectic all year round. Only in the middle of the summer the buzz is fading a bit as the locals are rushing away from the city heat to enjoy the party beaches on the Adriatic coast. Below you’ll find some suggestions and tips to which places you can go to when you are in Croatia’s party capital.

For the young traveler, the most interesting part of Zagreb would be the city’s night clubs and bars. There are plenty of them where you don’t have to pay an entrance fee. A large number of them are situated in the centre, as opposed to other cities, fancier places and student pubs can all be found in close proximity. (You should keep in mind that the Zagreb city centre is compact and easy to get around, so everyone from the artsy fartsy types and students are all in the centre).

However, different types of night clubs play specific music genres. If you like rock music head to Purgaraj, Sax, and Tvornica. If pop music is your cup of tea, go to Lemon club, Boogaloo, Saloon, Gjuro 2 and Jabuka. If you would like to experience Croatian folk music, Ludnica or Lake City will do it for you. For the electronica lovers, go to Shamballa, but the best electronic night club is Aquarious at Jarun Lake.

There is very little or no crowd at all on the beach and you can have all the privacy you want with your loved one. So, let’s get to the important part without wasting another second.

Kauapea Beach

First we will take a look at Kauapea Beach, which is also called Secret Beach. This secret beach is laid with yellow sand and has rock cliffs rising on the other end. The water in the ocean is clear blueish-green and the waves are just right for some surfing action. This beach is the perfect place to get your loved one and relax on the shore, swim in the tides or just bathe under the sun. The silence on the beach ensures that no one will disturb your intimate moments with each other. During the winter, this beach sees rising tides which make it unfit for swimming or snorkeling. But, for the rest of the year you can indulge in some great snorkeling action on this beach. This beach is located in the Kauai island of Hawaii and is accessed by a dirt trail leading to the beach. Despite the ban on nudity in all state beaches, this beach has gained popularity for nudity.

Praia da Ingrina

Praia da Ingrina is a little paradise in itself. This beach has everything you could ask of a secret beach. Praia da Ingrina, located in Vilamoura, Portugal is a breath-taking beauty. The beach is carpeted with soft, white sand, with rising cliffs on one end. The turquoise waters of this ocean are exquisitely stunning. To add to that, this beach is practically a secret; there is hardly a soul on the shores of this beach. There is no way this beach can fail to arouse that sense of romance in you and your partner. The calm tides and solitude at the beach bring a distinct feeling of peace and serenity. Praia da Ingrina nicely avoids the tourist’s resorts nearby, and yet, it is not too far from the city. You can also indulge in activities such as surfing and diving, but you will be required to take permission before diving as certain areas are restricted.

Polihale State Beach

Polihale State Beach is another, one of Hawaii beaches that feature in the top secret beaches around the world. Hawaii is famous for its many beaches and it comes as no surprise that more than one of Hawaii’s beaches should feature in the top list. This beach is quite an eye-candy for those thirsting for quality secret beaches. It is located in the west-most part of Kauai island of Hawaii and this too is led by a dirt path. This beach is by far the biggest, stretching across 17 miles from end to end. It is laid with marvelous, sparkling white sand that is soft on your sole and great to step into. There is plenty of sand on this beach; some of the sand dunes reaching a height of 100 feet. Swimming is generally prohibited in this beach; however, there is a small patch of water called the Queen’s Pond where swimming is safe. But, you should still be careful as there are no lifeguards posted on this beach to save you from drowning.

Venezuela is known for its natural beauty and wide range of flora and fauna. Whether you are looking to spend time in the mountains, beaches or even a desert, Venezuela is the place to be. There are many tourist attractions in Venezuela that it is impossible to count them.

The biggest attraction besides its natural beauty and beaches is the Angel Falls. This is a free falling waterfall, and it is the largest one in the world. It falls a massive 3,000 feet. Besides this, the country is home to the Henri Pittier National Park, which is replete with different species of plants and animals, some of which are also endangered species.

People who love architecture will enjoy their time in Venezuela. There are many magnificent churches that are dotted all over the country. Most of the churches are from the Spanish colonial era, and each one is a testament of Venezuela’s colonial past. Churches like La Iglesia de Santa Barbara, Plaza de la Chinita and Basilica de Chiquinquira are worth visiting and marveling over. These churches are located at Maracaibo. In the same place, you will also find ruins of old Spanish fortresses that are worth visiting.

One of the Venezuela tourist attractions that you should not miss is the Castillo San Carlos De Borromeo. It is a fort built on an island somewhere between 1664 and 1684. This old fort still has lookout towers that were build on all the four sides. The place is an excellent one if you want to get an idyllic view of the port.

The world’s highest waterfall, the Angel Falls, is located in southern Venezuela. This is a must-see for all tourists. The sight of the water gushing down from several thousand feet is truly a sight to behold. It is possible to take a scenic flight or motorized canoe trips to the foot of Angel Falls.

The Orinoco River is the principal and most significant river of the country. It is also a star attraction for tourists as river sports have gained immense popularity in the region. Canyoning is an adventure sport that has lured many a tourist into abseiling from a height into narrow currents.

The local climate is tropical and hence is typically hot and humid whereas in the highlands it is generally more moderate. Tourists are advised to carry clothes that suit such climes.

The country, being a part of the developing countries of South America, is not very expensive and hence a vacation to Venezuela will fit most budgets.

Whether you choose to stay in an up market hotel, a caravan park or serviced apartments, you will soon discover there are lots of great family activities to do in and around Brisbane. Get your bearings first, explore the city on foot and get ready to have a great family holiday.

Brisbane River

A good way to see the city is to take a cruise on the river, a must really since the city is known as the River City. The river is enjoyed for leisure activities as well as being used by commuters. Take a cruise on one of the Kookaburra River Queens or for value for money try the City Cat, where you can get off at various stops. There are plenty of restaurants along the river as well as parks to relax in. For viewing the river at a more leisurely pace you may even want to try canoeing or kayaking.

South Bank

Just across the river from the city South Bank offers plenty of things to do. With a sandy beach and grassy picnic areas, it is a great place for a picnic. Visit the shops or restaurants and cafes, or head to the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art for a truly cultural experience. The Queensland Museum Science centre is also at South Bank and is really popular with children. There are many festivals and free entertainment held throughout the year and on Friday, Saturday and Sundays the Art and Craft Market is held.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Australia’s first koala sanctuary, and also the largest, there are over 130 koalas in residence. Here you can cuddle a koala, hand feed kangaroos and see a variety of wildlife. To get there you can take the River Cat from the city.

Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens

These gardens cover 52 hectares and house an array of subtropical and Australian flora. With lakes and streams there is also the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium which is popular with children. The gardens are 7 kilometres from the city and entry is free. There are many different themed gardens to explore and a Hide ‘n’ Seek Trial for the children.

Queen Street Mall

The Queen Street Mall is a pedestrian walkway in the heart of the city with plenty of shops and cafes and often there is free entertainment on the performance stage. It hosts around 26 million visitors a year and is Queensland’s hub of fashion and retail. The Brisbane Visitor Information Centre is also located in the Queen Street Mall where you can get more ideas for your holiday.

New Farm Park

Overlooking the water, New Farm Park is a lovely destination for the whole family. With huge fig trees for the children to play around there is also a fantastic playground with an area for toddlers, as well as more challenging equipment for the older ones. During the weekends the Farmers Market is held where you find good quality local produce.

Consider heading to the mountains for a ski vacation which has something for everyone. There are several ski destinations to choose from and many are located in North America. For family members that don’t know how to ski there are lessons available and adults can enjoy the lodge and surrounding quaint cities while the kids hit the slopes. Many resorts in winter destinations have spa services that provide massages and beauty treatments.

Transportation, hotel and lift tickets can be purchased separately or for less hassle and usually a cost savings, you can book a ski package. Ski packages include transfers, hotel accommodations and lift tickets. Sometimes they also include airfare, ski lessons, spa treatment, sightseeing and meals. You can book your winter holiday on your own; the internet is a great resource to find information on resorts and packages. A travel agent can be used if you prefer one stop shopping; they have a ton of brochures and sometimes have first hand experience with the packages they offer.

Sugarloaf, located in the northeast state of Maine is a premier ski area offering 54 miles of marked trails. There are 15 chairlifts that transport skiers to the 134 marked trails and glades of varying difficulty from beginner to advanced.

If you would like to combine skiing with some history you should consider a ski holiday at Cannon Mountain, New Hampshire. It not only provides abundant ski options but is also home to the New England Ski Museum; one of only four in the country.

Whiteface Mountain located in upstate New York is considered one of the best resorts among ski enthusiast. In fact, it hosted the Winter Olympics 1980 alpine skiing competition. The views from the high peaks of the mountain peaks are amazing; on a clear day you can see both Vermont and Canada. If you are an advanced skier, you’ll especially enjoy Whiteface’s trails; it has the greatest vertical drop in the eastern U.S.

Another popular ski destination is Aspen, Colorado. Not only is it known for its world class slopes but is favorite among the rich and famous. Aspen is a lovely city with many options for shopping, entertainment and fine dining. There are many accommodations available ranging from bed and breakfasts to luxurious resorts and spas.

On the west coast of the U.S. is the ski area of Lake Tahoe which contains several world class ski resorts. It lies on the border of California and Nevada and the views of the lake are spectacular while you’re skiing down the slopes. If not everyone wants to ski, there are several gaming and entertainment options on the Nevada side of the lake.

If you’re looking to get out of the U.S., Canada has several options. For example, there is Whistler near Vancouver and Blue Mountain in Ontario which both have amazing skiing and several hotel options.

If you’re looking for a winter holiday, consider a ski vacation. There are several destinations to choose from and they offer something for everyone.

Winner of the European city of Culture in 1990, Glasgow is at the epicentre of Scottish and world culture. From noble beginnings in the medieval period to a world centre for shipbuilding and trade in the industrial period, the city of Glasgow has gone from strength to strength, today sitting proud on the Clyde as one of Europe’s most popular cities.

If you visit Glasgow today, expect to find a successful cosmopolitan city, with a proud Scottish heritage and fiery Celtic culture. As one of Europe’s top 20 financial centres, and Scotland’s largest city, the city of Glasgow is a major player in Scottish politics and commerce, and a very important European city.

With much of Glasgow’s growth rooted in the Victorian era, it comes as no surprise that there are a number of beautiful Victorian buildings dotted throughout the city. So when visiting Glasgow, some of the most attractive buildings that are worth taking a look at include the Glasgow City Chambers, the main building of the University of Glasgow and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, which all date from the Victorian period.

Although much of the architecture is Victorian, Glasgow has also been at the forefront of the Art Nouveau movement in the UK. Leading this movement was Glaswegian designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh who today is mostly famed for his contemporary jewellery designs. Designer of the Glasgow School of Art and the Queen’s Cross Church, Mackintosh’s designs had a very large impact on the city of Glasgow, with his buildings playing a huge part in Glasgow winning the City of Architecture and Design award in 1999.

But if there’s one thing that Glasgow is known for it’s football. The city has three professional football clubs, the most famous being Celtic and Rangers. Football has a strong history within the city, the two sides famous for their rivalries and die-hard fans.

After football, Glasgow is known for having a thriving music scene. Throughout the city, a large number of Scotland’s most famous live music pubs, clubs and venues can be found. Some of the most popular venues include the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, the SECC and the King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, which is famed for being the venue where British pop sensations Oasis were discovered.

Thanks to the growth of the internet, flights to Glasgow have become more affordable within the last few years and this has attracted a large number of tourists from around the world. But, this is perhaps not too surprising; with a unique and colourful history to discover, Glasgow has a character unlike any other British city. And as one of Europe’s main cities, you will find that there’s always plenty to see and do.

Of the five villages that make up Italy’s Cinque Terre, Vernazza is the prettiest. With a beautiful natural harbor, a bustling ocean-front piazza filled with bars and cafes, and a ruined castle watching over it, Vernazza is stunning.

Today, you can reach Vernazza by automobile, though you’ll have to park at the lot above the town. There’s a shuttle that runs back and forth to the center of Vernazza so you won’t have to haul your luggage.

In town, the narrow alleyways lead to delightful arcades and charming restaurants. If the colorful houses with their tile roofs look like something out of a theme park, it’s because the zoning board dictates the pastel colors that can be used in Vernazza.

If you arrive by train, stop off at the Tourist Office in the station. For Internet access, try the Internet point or the Blue Marlin Bar.

There’s not a lot to do in Vernazza, but there are several good hikes. You can take Cinque Terre Trail Two to Corniglia or Monterossa. There’s also a trail behind the Chapel of Santa Maria that has more beautiful views, or you can hike up to the ruins of the castle. Kayak rentals are available in the harbor, and they’re a great way to explore the coast.

Of course, the most popular activity in Vernazza is sitting in a cafe with a bottle of wine and watching the world go by.

Vernazza hotels in all price ranges.

Part of the reason that the Cinque Terre is enjoyable is that it’s less developed than other parts of Italy. Although there’s certainly more here than there was twenty years ago, most of the accommodations are still small pensiones or rooms in private homes. These are called affitta camere, and they can be quite nice. If stairs are a problem, Vernazza isn’t a good choice for you because virtually all properties have them.

You won’t find all the amenities and services of a three-star hotel here. Most accommodations are clean and simple, and their best feature is the view. A room with a terrace or balcony is most enjoyable, and some Vernazza hotels have common terraces or gardens so guests in rooms without them can still enjoy the wonderful scenery.

There are a couple of trattorias in town, so don’t be too concerned if your hotel doesn’t have a restaurant. Most serve breakfast and at several, you can get a drink. Of course, you can also buy a bottle of local wine to enjoy it in your room or on your balcony.

The most stylish and expensive hotel in Vernazza is La Mala, which has only four rooms. Equipped with flat screen, satellite TVs, mini bars, and featuring stone walls and wood beams, the rooms also have access to a gorgeous terrace with sweeping views of the ocean. You’ll need to reserve this one well in advance.

Trattoria Gianni Franzi is one of the best restaurants in Vernazza, and they also have two buildings with 23 hotel rooms. Those in the newer building all have private baths but lack the views of the original rooms. There’s a pretty terrace garden that all the guests can enjoy.

Located in the top two floors of an old house, Albergo Barbara has harbor views from the two rooms on the main floors. A few of the other nine rooms share a bath but have a sink.

One of the best-known hosts in Vernazza is Giuliano Basso, who built his four-room inn himself. The building and terrace were made from local stone, and there’s an orange grove beneath the hotel. Four can be accommodated in the family room, and guests can use the shared refrigerator.
