over a year ago when i was still living in nyc and working at bumble + bumble, i got a call from one of the stylists who was working on a “top secret vidal sassoon film” with michael gordon. (who happens to be the founder of bumble + bumble, in case you we’re wondering.)
the content of the conversation basically went like this:
c: we’re in a load of trouble. we’re supposed to film this scene in a few days and whoever cast the models did it all wrong. would you be interested?
me: ok.
that was the my breakthrough moment into the worlds of both modeling and acting. it also happens to be my biggest (and only) moment to date. although glamorous and fun, making a career out of either of these activities has never really been on my List Of Serious Considerations. (let’s start with the fact that i’m a good 5″ too short to reach standard modeling requirements…)
vidal sassoon himself was supposed to be at the shooting that day, but he got extremely sick and went to the hospital instead. (poor guy.)
anyway, the “vidal sassoon the movie” site is up and stating that it’s coming “soon,” so i’m guessing that it’s not quite so Top Secret” any more.
obviously you would want to see a photograph from the filming:
that’s lil’ ol’ me, front left, clutching the vintage umbrella in total terror
what this picture doesn’t show are the hundreds of tourists that are constantly swarming central park, clustered around the film crew taking pictures of us with their cell phones. why? i’m not sure. possibly because in the flood of business suits and fanny packs, there were seven girls strutting up and down the sidewalk in full twiggy makeup and mini dresses?
what this picture also doesn’t show is c. standing off to the side of the camera crew, frantically trying to show me how to purse my lips and smile at the same exact time. note to self: must do more mirror-practicing in order to further my modeling career.
anyway, i’m a little excited about the “coming soon” part. i’m considering writing my first movie-critique-post ever once i see it. that’s totally acceptable, right? to critique your own performance? i should google that one…
